we know, we know. hydration is super important. but how many of us realllly get in those 8 glasses a day? here are a few fun facts and tips to help get you motivate you to get in that necessary h2o.
1. improves skin.
drinking plenty of water keeps skin from becoming dry and flaky. not to mention, dry skin has less resilience and leads to WRINKLES. eek!
2. promotes weight loss.
you heard right. sometimes when we get a craving or feel hungry, we are actually just thirsty. hunger is a sign of dehydration. additionally, drinking water helps you feel more satisfied at a meal AND removes the by-products of fat. did you know that drinking half a liter (approx. 2 - 8 oz glasses) of water was shown to increase metabolism by 24-30% for up to 1 and half hours? wedding dress winning!
3. flushes out toxins.
no fancy detox diet needed! water allows your kidneys to filter toxins, helps your cells take in nutrients and remove waste, and transports nutrients to every organ in your body.
4. boosts your burn.
not hydrated? your workout will suffer. dehydration has been linked to altered body temperature control, reduced motivation, increased fatigue and makes exercise feel much more difficult, both physically and mentally. it's not surprising as muscle is 80% water.
5. headache (and hangover) reliever.
a little too much bubbly at the bachelorette party? alcohol is a diuretic making you lose more than you take in, leading to dehydration and that dreaded pounding headache. have a glass of water in between cocktails and at least a large glass before bed. and, if you suffer from migraines guzzling water might also help reduce intensity.
6. increases energy.
this one's a no-brainer, literally. our brains are made up on 90% water. drinking plenty of water will help you feel refreshed and alert. if you're dehydrated plan on feeling fatigued and unable to think clear. the complete opposite of what you want when trying to make those last minute detail decisions.
